Find your plumpness!

plump my skin

Where oh where have those baby cheeks gone?

Where oh where have those baby cheeks gone?   Once edible, pinchable, and oh-so-pudgy, I wonder what ever happened to the cheeks of my youth as I gaze in the mirror.  Those puffed out cheeks that people joked about biting.  In short, where’s that plumpness?  I feel like we are all the same that way... I think you see where I’m going with this.

In search of more plumpness, I did spend a couple of years eating 4 times more than I would ordinarily.  I did get plumper, so to speak, in both my cheeks and my ass.

In the hopes of helping us all plump up that volume for a fresh-faced, more youthful appearance, I knew I had to look elsewhere... And now, with Lost In Skination, we’ve got some answers.

I consulted with my favorite dermatologist and asked some of my go-to brands and here’s what they prescribe:

1. A GOOD Vitamin C or Hyaluronic Acid

For those who can tolerate it, vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant and complexion booster that’s protects skin from sun damage.  If you have sensitive skin, as I do, opt for a lower concentration of vitamin C.

SVR Hydracid C 20 cream

Vitamin C with a 20% concentration + Hyaluronic Acid.  It has the highest ratio of vitamin C to HA with a heavy molecular weight.  It’s suitable for all ages.

Laroche Posay Hyalu B5

Effectively boosts the skin’s hydration levels. For the 411 on HA, see my post.
Comprised of 2 types of HA as well as vitamin B5, to firm and repair the skin’s cutaneous layer and to initiate skin regeneration.

2. Moisturizer with SPF

Always go for a hydrating cream that is suitable for your skin type. See SPF post for my edited list.

  1. A good chemical exfoliant

Will activate cellular regeneration.  This naturally restores complexion for brightest, softer, more dewy skin.

Skinceuticals Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight

With a 10% concentration of active glycolic acid. By stimulating cell regeneration, healthier skin ensues.

2. Hydrating Cream containing peptides or retinaldehyde.

Peptides (small proteins) are collagen-based amino acid chains that relaunch mechanisms in even the most tired of skins by neurally communicating “messages”, for example, to produce more collagen, yielding a global anti-aging effect (fewer lines and wrinkles) or to reduce melatonin production, resulting in fewer brown spots and a tighter, more defined complexion.

Drunk Elephant Protini

With an ultra-concentrated formula of amino acids, peptide signals, and synthetics, this cream brings both the hydra and the plump!

Avène Ysthéal cream

The Ystheal anti-wrinkle cream preserves the capital youth factors of the skin thanks to its specially formulated combination of active ingredients:

🌙 RETINALDEHYDE: Like retinol but adapted to sensitive skin, it has many anti-aging and wrinkle-reducing benefits.
🌙 L'O.G.G.: Reinforces cutaneous elasticity for skin that is more toned and healthier looking.
🌙 AVENE THERMAL WATER: Soothes and appeases.

A good diet is instrumental in achieving healthy skin, at any age. Dermatologists encourage us to limit our sugar consumption. By doing so, we can reduce the glycation of our collagen, thereby preventing it from growing harder and older. Eating fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants is key. (See Skin Food post).
