hyaluronic acid molecules

_Hyaluronic acid (HA)

Molecule that is naturally found in our skin and helps keep it hydrated.  HA  carries 1000* of its weight in water and preserves skin’s fortification, rendering it more youthful.

….Imagine, for a moment, a dehydrated prune, tired and rotted.  It’s sort of what skin would look like without it’s Hyaluronic acid... no elasticity, sunken wrinkles, a lifeless complexion... I want skin that is plump, engorged even, full of water, full of HA.

Why is HA so important for my skin ?

Starting in your mid-20’s HA levels start to diminish.  Even if this doesn’t pertain to you specifically, there’s always « prevention » ah ah.  Therefore you can’t ever have enough HA but before purchasing, @lostinskination advises that you pay attention to 2 key factors: molecular weight and SH vs. HA.

Molecular weight... what’s that?

HA comes in different weights... The smaller the molecular weight, the deeper it penetrates the skin.
- The larger the molecular weight, the more it sits on the skin’s surface.
- By extension, a more mid-weight penetrates the epidermis.
- HA with the lowest molecular weight penetrates so deeply the skin that it stimulates the production of new hyaluronic acid molecules.

What about SH vs. HA ?

When you’re buying HA products, it’s possible that SH, or Sodium Hyaluronate is listed as an ingredient.  This is a chemical derivative of HA, which is less expensive but also more easily absorbed. It’s great when a product has both.  The truth is there are thousands of these products out there so you’re best to take notes on which I have proven to be most effective...

Here’s some direction...

Serums and moisturizers are a great way to hike up HA levels in the skin AM and/or PM.

lost in skination recommends

Laroche Posay Hyalu B5

A pro-skin recovery formula featuring two types of pure hyaluronic acids, vitamin B5 and madecassoside, to help plump the look of skin, repair skin's barrier and activate skin renewal.

Niod multi-molecular hyaluronic complex

Highly concentrated complex encompassing 12 different types of hyaluronic acids. This highly advanced formula delivers serious results. It’s no joke.

The Ordinary Hyaluronic acid + Vitamin B5

The quality/price ratio for this product is astounding.  While less elaborate than NIOD (the 2 products come from the same group DECIEM), it works efficiently in tandem with a hydrating moisturizer.

Skinceuticals H.A intensifier

A high concentration of HA, which is reflected in the price.  It does however, leave skin firm and plump.

Osea Hyaluronic sea serum

This serum contains both SH and HA, as well as 3 different molecular weights.  It’s light and penetrates quickly leaving skin smooth and radiant. And guess what? It is vegan and cruelty-free.

Teaology Rose tea hyaluronic moisturizing cream

This newer Italian brand launched in Canada this fall.  I just adored the founders.  This cream leaves my skin velvety ALL DAY LONG. It contains 3 levels of molecular weight to reduce wrinkles and make skin more dense.

So where do we stand with injections in all this?
I don’t know about you but when the topic of injections comes up with friends, you get the impression that we are discussing Voldemort in Harry Potter... everyone know about him but nobody speaks of him.

So let’s chill out... this is a safe space. The stigma of injections no longer exists... if done right that is...

There’s no question that HA injections are like giving your skin a Xanax... Resylane or Juvederm do wonders for the skin. They are tried, tested and true and can yield beautiful, natural looking results... I promise we will get back to them.
